Waste of a different Kind

What do you do when you have been to the toilet? You of course flush it and wash your hands don't you? Have you ever thought where that gallon of water etc that you just flushed away has come from? What about the water you used to wash your hands? or even the water from the tap that you might drink?

Then you should! Initially the water will more than likely be piped to you from a reservoir via a water treatment plant and after it leaves your house it goes back to the water treatment plant/sewage works. Here the solids are allowed to settle and the liquid is filtered off to be RECYCLED!!! It is passed through loads of filters and chemicals are added to kill all known germs and in most cases fluoride is added then it is pumped back to your house!

Did you know that the water in your tap right now could have gone through this process up to 7 times? Now there's a thought for you. What about all the waste chemicals that are generated? What about all the extra water that is used to re-purify what you are now drinking or cooking with or using in your toilet?

Never thought about it have you? Then it's about time you did! How about putting in low flush toilets when your old one breaks or even putting a small brick in the cistern to reduce the amount of water that you use? It will all help.

Ever considered a waste water recycling system? A simple garden pond system could recycle all your domestic water waste from the kitchen, shower, washing machine etc and provide a focal point in the garden as well as water to use on the garden in times of drought.

Toilet waste can also be recycled to provide compost for the garden thus saving even more money but that's for another post.

Tied up in packaging

So, have you been down to your local supermarket recently? Have you tried to buy fresh food, vegetables that aren't wrapped? Why oh why do they insist on double wrapping everything in clingfilm so that you can't feel how fresh it is or even what it smells like? It's a plot against us the consumer, they will tell you that it is to keep the product fresh and to stop nasty germs being transmitted to you. In reality although the second point may be valid it is a ploy by the supermarkets to make more money out of you the customer.

Don't give in to this, get yourselves down to your local outdoor market, farmers market and get to see what real food should be like. Feel it, smell it and even taste it. Really fresh food tastes better than the supermarket rubbish!!!

It isn't only food that has an excess of packaging, clothes are another example of packaging overkill!!! Where does all this rubbish go? Why, into landfill sites paid for by me and you!!!
If they insist on so much packaging why don't they run recycling schemes to recover some of it and that way reduce the cost of the goods?

it will never happen unless you take action and voice your feelings now!!! Go on do it.... You will feel much better for it and you will be making a difference.

The Beginning

Here is where we start to see just how wasteful the world really is and what YOU can do about it! It isn't just about recycling waste but changing your perception of what is acceptable and what YOU can do to help us from destroying natures true beauty!
